Coat Drive
Many of us have been in a situation at some point when we were cold and did not have on the right clothing to stay warm. It is an uncomfortable feeling that leaves you unable to think about much else, other than how cold you are.
The Missions Ministry Team of our church sponsors a coat drive to help local people in need stay warm. During the autumn months of each year the church collects clean, gently used coats and jackets as part of the Coat Drive. Coats of all shapes and sizes are welcome.
Just bring your clean, gently used coats and jackets to the church during our coat drive. The coat drive is an easy way for you and your family to pass along coats and jackets that you no longer need.
Project 20/20
The Mission team of the church organizes the yearly 20/20 program in January.
According to the World Health Organization approximately 25 percent of the world's population needs eyeglasses. You can help a person in need by donating glasses you no longer use.
Donate your eyeglasses and sunglasses, instead of throwing them away and you can make a difference to a needy, low-income individual. Make a difference in a stranger's life by donating your unwanted eyeglasses and sunglasses to our 20/20 Mission.
We ask that you place the eyeglasses and sunglasses in protective cases. If you don't have protective cases for the glasses, wrap each pair of glasses in bubble wrap. Then bring the glasses to the collection box at the church in February.
Contact the church office if you would like more information about this program.
Mission Food Pantry
Throughout the year, the Missions Ministry Team helps people in the Medina community who are in need of nutritional assistance.
Though most of us take meal time for granted, there are those less fortunate in our community. Our food pantry is available to help those in need. In addition to providing food to these people in our community, we extend a heartfelt invitation to worship with us at Medina FUMC.
Each week in the bulletin and on the PowerPoint announcements, during worship, there is a list of items needed to keep the food pantry well stocked.
Please bring your food donations to the church any work day between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., or Sunday between 9:30 a.m. and noon.
If you wish to help or if you know of someone in need of this ministry, please, contact the church office (783-3230).
School Supplies Drive
Each year in August, as the new school year approaches, the Ministry Team sponsors a dinner at the church. The price of the dinner is a bag of school supplies that will be donated to local elementary and middle schools.
The first week of class the supplies are taken to the schools with these very simple instructions; the teachers are to use their discretion to see that no student’s grade suffers because they cannot afford their school supplies. The teachers give the supplies to the disadvantaged students in a manner that allows them to maintain their dignity among their peers and classmates.
Angel Tree
Remember being a child as Christmas time drew near? Remember gazing at the gifts under the tree and waiting for the big day to arrive? Imagine if you were still a child and there were no gifts under the tree. Imagine, as a parent, being unable to afford the things you so desperately want to give your children, but you are without the financial means to make it happen.
Christmas is a very special time so the Ministry Team at MFUMC fashioned an Angel Tree to help Christmas for children in need.
Around the beginning of the Advent Season, the church gathers a list of children in our community that will not have gifts for Christmas without our help. The names of the children are never published to the church.
After the needs and sizes of the children are determined, each item is written on an angel shaped card and placed, like an ornament, on the Angel Tree in the narthex of the church. Each church member that wishes to help takes at least one card from the tree. The generous donors purchase the items, wrap them, and put them under the Angel Tree with the angel shaped card attached. Before Christmas arrives, the gifts are delivered to the families for the children to open on Christmas morning.
Imagine how your generosity and kindness can change the life of a child on Christmas Day.
Reelfoot Rural Ministries Toy Drive
Our church Ministry Team is a local sponsor for Reelfoot Rural Ministries Toy Drive.
During the Christmas season the Ministry Team hosts a chili dinner for the Reelfoot Rural Ministries’ Christmas Store. The cost of the chili dinner is a new toy with the price tag still attached. If you are not interested in attending the chili dinner, you may simply bring your toy donation to the church office.
The toys are delivered to the “Christmas Store” where parents that would not otherwise be able to afford Christmas toys for their children are able to purchase the toys at a fraction of the original cost.
The children are blessed with a brighter Christmas and the parents are filled with pride, having been able to provide for their children.
