Our History
Our History

Medina First United Methodist Church began serving Christ in the Medina community in the mid-1800's.
Our church has always been an open, loving family. Experiencing a cycle of growth in the late 1980's and facing inadequacies in our facilities, we began to plan for the future; a circumstance faced many times in the past. But something was different this time. Medina was at the convergence of several unique events that placed our community at the precipice of an explosion in population.
We were a community in unique transition for a church almost 150 years in age. Rather than a community that was declining we were in an emerging, vibrantly growing, community. It was time for a decision. Our church could turn in on itself and serve the needs of the church family as it existed, or dare to dream of a different future. Through God's grace working within our church family, we decided to accept the unique opportunity God was presenting and strive to share His gift of grace with hundreds, if not thousands, of new friends and neighbors. We chose to pursue the dream!
Through a series of remarkable events, 25 acres were procured at the corner of US Hwy 45E and State Hwy 152, and we constructed the present facility. Our new facilities provide us with the tools required to reach out and serve our burgeoning community. But embedded within the architecture our church building are relics of our rich past. Our new facilities marry our determination to provide modern and functional facilities required to serve the missions of our church while preserving the essence of our rich heritage.
But the greater heritage of our church is not reflected in dates, or buildings, or relics from our past. The heritage of our church is embodied in the relationships of our church family. It is a heritage of love and commitment to God and to one another. The tradition of our church is a tradition reflecting God's grace in our lives through service to God's people.
Come be a part of this tradition; as we strive to experience and share God's grace.
